COMPLEX ADHD OR ADHD AND AUTISM?

Complex Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (Complex ADHD) can be defined as ADHD with a co-occurring: condition and complicating factors. ADHD rarely occurs in isolation. Children and young people with ADHD have one or more co-occurring conditions, almost always treatment and outcomes impacted. “Complex ADHD” is a relatively new term that reflects this phenomenon. Roughly 40 percent of children with Complex ADHD have ODD or a related conduct disorder. Complex ADHD mostly appears in childhood and are more often diagnosed in boys.

Children and young people who have traits that stretch across both Autism and ADHD diagnoses often face more serious challenges than people with either diagnosis alone. Children and young people with ADHD and Autism diagnoses can have greater impairments in self-care and daily living skills, more severe social and cognitive issues and have a poorer health-related quality of life.

Children and young people with Complex ADHD or ADHD and Autism, benefit from an integration of Pharmacological, Speech, Psychological and Occupational therapies. Intensive Support offers positive behaviour support that can assist.

Intensive Support through the NDIS and the Department of Community Justice (DCJ) Casework Support Scheme(CSS) provides effective and efficient service to families and carers to help children and young people with ADHD and Autism decrease impairments in self-care and daily living. Intensive Support helps children and young people with Complex ADHD families and carers to help manage negativistic, aggressive, and defiant behaviour and achieve long term goals.
