Living with psychosocial disability can present significant challenges that affect every aspect of a person’s life, including their mental health, relationships, housing, employment, education and community participation.
Recovery is a deeply personal journey and looks different for every individual. At Intensive Support, we believe that recovery is about more than managing symptoms. It is about building hope, increasing confidence, strengthening resilience, developing independence and supporting participants to live meaningful lives based on their own goals, values and aspirations.
The Intensive Support NDIS Psychosocial Recovery Coaching service provides specialised, recovery-oriented support for people living with psychosocial disability arising from mental illness.
Recovery Coaches work alongside participants to develop the skills, confidence and supports needed to successfully manage the challenges associated with mental illness while pursuing greater independence and improved wellbeing.
Rather than directing a participant’s recovery, our coaches build genuine partnerships that empower participants to make informed decisions, exercise choice and control, and take an active role in achieving their personal recovery goals.
Recovery Coaching is distinct from traditional support coordination because it focuses on building long-term recovery capacity rather than simply connecting participants with services. Our Recovery Coaches spend time getting to know each participant, understanding their strengths, interests and aspirations, while recognising the impact that mental illness, trauma and life experiences may have had on their lives.
Together, participants and Recovery Coaches develop practical strategies that promote stability, resilience and sustained recovery, enabling participants to navigate challenges with greater confidence and independence.
Our Recovery Coaches assist participants to identify and work towards meaningful goals that improve their quality of life. This may include developing daily living skills, establishing healthy routines, improving emotional wellbeing, strengthening coping strategies, increasing social and community participation, improving communication and interpersonal relationships, developing decision-making and problem-solving skills, building confidence and self-esteem, and increasing independence across all aspects of daily life. Participants are supported to recognise their strengths, build on existing abilities and develop new skills that promote long-term recovery and self-management.
Recovery is rarely a straight path, and periods of increased stress or declining mental health can occur. Intensive Support recognises the importance of providing consistent, compassionate support during these times. Our Recovery Coaches assist participants to identify early warning signs of deteriorating mental health, develop personalised wellness and recovery plans, strengthen protective factors, build effective coping strategies and access appropriate services before challenges escalate. By supporting participants to better understand their own recovery journey, we help reduce the impact of setbacks while promoting resilience and ongoing engagement with supports.
Effective recovery relies upon strong collaboration between all members of a participant’s support network. Our Recovery Coaches work closely with participants, families, carers, treating psychiatrists, psychologists, general practitioners, Community Mental Health Teams, allied health professionals, Support Coordinators, housing providers, employment services and other community organisations. Through coordinated, person-centred practice, we help ensure participants receive consistent support that is responsive to their individual needs, preferences and recovery goals.
At Intensive Support, our practice is grounded in the principles of recovery-oriented, person-centred and trauma-informed care. We recognise that every participant is the expert in their own life and that recovery is strengthened through respectful relationships, hope, empowerment and genuine partnership. Our Recovery Coaches foster environments where participants feel heard, valued and supported to make their own choices while developing the confidence and skills required to achieve greater independence and community inclusion.
Participants who engage with Intensive Support’s Psychosocial Recovery Coaching service frequently experience improved confidence, increased independence, stronger self-management skills, enhanced emotional wellbeing, greater community participation, improved housing stability, healthier relationships, increased resilience and a greater ability to achieve their personal goals. Most importantly, participants develop the confidence to take greater control of their lives and create sustainable pathways towards recovery.
Intensive Support has extensive experience supporting people living with psychosocial disability, complex mental health conditions, trauma, addiction and multiple life challenges. Our experienced Recovery Coaches are committed to providing compassionate, practical and evidence-informed support that empowers participants to build meaningful lives within their communities. We believe every person has the capacity for recovery, and our role is to walk alongside participants as trusted partners, providing encouragement, guidance and practical support every step of the way.
At Intensive Support, we are committed to helping participants move beyond simply managing mental illness towards building lives that are fulfilling, connected and purposeful. Through collaborative Recovery Coaching, we empower participants to strengthen their abilities, achieve their goals and realise their full potential with confidence, dignity and hope.
